Wedding Caricatures to Fill Your Lulls With Laughter

Planning your wedding day is one of the most exciting events of your adult life. You have probably pictured the scene many times, but now of course, it’s for real!

Your wedding day is so special, it is only natural that you want everything to be perfect. With the average wedding spend now at around 19000, it is also natural to have a panic now and again.

You have no doubt been to a few weddings yourself, so you will know some of the things you definitely do and don’t want for your big day. It is important that you have the kind of wedding you  want – It is all too easy to have your day hijacked by well meaning family and friends.

You want your wedding caricaturist day to reflect both your personalities, not just a pre-packaged affair. Whether you are the Bride, Mother of the Bride, or Bridesmaid, good planning is the key to ensuring your wedding day is one to remember. Planning for your reception should begin as soon as you set your wedding date. One of the most common complaints from wedding guests is the time they have to wait between the ceremony and the reception.

I am sure you have been at weddings yourself where you are left twiddling your thumbs while the Bride and Groom are busy off having their photos taken on the lawn. Boredom is definitely not the theme you want to be going for.

It is best to keep the waiting time between the wedding and the reception at just a couple of hours at most. Try and arrange for pre-reception drinks or canapés to keep your guests occupied.

The entertainment that you have at your wedding offers you the chance to really make it a memorable occasion, and planning for the natural lull in the day is an excellent way to keep things flowing.

Finding the right entertainment at the right price for your wedding can be tricky. Your reception entertainment is vital part of your evening celebrations. There are various options available to you, and a lot of brides are thinking outside the box these days. Here are a few ideas:

  • Harpist/ String Quartet/ Flutist
  • Karaoke
  • Magician

Harpists and other musicians can add a touch of class to your day, but can often feel a little stiff for some weddings, whereas a Karaoke session might not suit everyone. A magician can keep your guests entertained with some close up slight of hand and have been a really popular choice for the last 5 or 6 years now.

Think about your guests. What kind of entertainment will suit them and the mood you want to create?

A really new trend for unique wedding entertainment is to hire a wedding caricaturist to draw funny portraits of your guests.

You may have seen these artists drawing pictures of holidaymakers on your last vacation. These fun pictures make great wedding favours, and with the emphasis on gentle humour (rather than the more exaggerated caricatures of newspapers and magazines) will keep everyone entertained, not just the subject being drawn.

As with the other entertainment options, your first port of call should be their website. Have a look at the work they produce, and most importantly, check out their customer feedback – are they up-to-date? Have there been any issues in the past?

Most caricaturists will charge for a minimum of 2 hours, and may have a maximum number of hours they will work. Many can do ‘walk-a-bout’ caricatures where they will mingle with your guests, or they will work at an easel, with guests sitting down to be drawn. The seated approach really maximizes the entertainment for the spectators and will really fill your lull with laughter!
